Don't Give Up!
Don’t Give Up!
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
Sometimes this momma gig is a rough one and it doesn’t really matter what season you’re in. Whether it’s the newborn stage, toddler tantrums, tweens, teens, young adults or grown children - there are hard spots in every single one of these seasons.
When all my kids were little, I couldn’t wait to have everyone out of diapers - FREEDOM! When my youngest, at the time, was almost in Kindergarten I couldn’t wait for - FREEDOM! When my oldest got his license and could help drive kids around - FREEDOM! The list could go on... The truth is, when they all were out of diapers, we decided to adopt and I started back at the baby stage....The truth is, when my youngest was old enough to go to school, we started homeschooling...The truth is, when my oldest got his license, yes, he helped drive the kids around but he also had his freedom....
I recently had a great conversation with my mother-in-law. I was sharing with her some of the hard stuff going on with our kids and how we wished we could skip this whole season and get to the one where all the kids are happily married to amazing people and we are grandparents. She just looked at me and said, “Katy, there are no finish lines in parenting, just seasons. They all have their hard times and their good times.” WHAT?!!! I’ve been pondering this for some time and I just want you all to be encouraged that God has a plan for each one of your kids - it’s His story to write and He uses us in it but it’s not our story. We really do have all we can handle being faithful to our own story. Yes, being a parent is a part of it and we need to do our best, but it isn’t what defines us - His love for us is what defines us. We don’t have to walk in the seasons of parenting or life alone, He is always there, writing our story and walking with us.
As we start a new month, be mindful of the seasons in your life and be thankful - first, that you’re still here to enjoy these seasons with your family and second, that you have a faithful God walking with you through these seasons!
